Writing a News Story
- Hard news starts with the 5 w's
- Hard news slams the reader with all of the facts right away and then elaborates later
- Soft news is often on people or organizations and gets more in depth
- A feature takes a step back from hard news and gets more in depth
- A editorial is an oppinion article that gives you a chance to express how you feel about a topic
- A lead is like a topic sentence and in hard news it is the five w's
- In a hard news story you CANNOT use your opinion, only in soft news or an editorial.
- Think about the five senses, you want to make the reader feel like they are there.
- Find a topic
- Find an angle
- Collect data, information
- Gather interviews
- Write the Story
- Edit/Revise/Proofread
