Writing a News Story

Today we will work on topics and angles. Here is a good resource for the prewriting material of your story:

Mon: Topic and angle
Tues: Collect information and interview
Wed: Lead due, collect information and interview
Thurs: Write story
Friday: Rough draft of story is due at beginning of hour (peer editing)

Your assignment for Wednesday (due at beginning of hour) is to have your lead and backup (first two paragraphs) completed:

LEAD AND BACKUP: Does the story begin with one long sentence that answers most of the 5Ws and H without going into detail? What questions are left unanswered? Are they answered in the second paragraph? Are more details provided (names, more specific places, times)?

We will do peer edits in class on Friday.

Your finished story will be due on Monday at the beginning of the hour. The story must be at least 600 words in length. You must have three interviews for your story.

My topic is Track and Field and my angle is how the snow will affect our season.
